Apparently one of our free enterprises here in America has offended some folks with a Halloween costume.
The headline of the article reads “Immigrants Not Amused by ‘Illegal Alien’ Costume” the article goes on to say that immigrant rights groups are upset by the costume. As much as I have been feeling more sensitive lately towards the plight of others I can’t find myself offended by the big eyed Grey in the orange jumpsuit holding a green card. Am I really supposed to feel sorry for someone here in this country illegally who doesn’t even have a sense of humor? Sure I think we need to relax immigration laws, streamline the process, and generally make it easier to become a citizen. I could go on and on about the while “Tired, poor, and huddled masses as long as they have their green cards handy” mentality I see amongst my brethren but honestly it disgusts me only slightly more than so-called immigrant groups being outraged over a funny costume. Everyone needs to just lighten up. To hear these defenders of illegal aliens, and not the kind in the picture, spew outrage over this you’d think someone got lynched and the hear some of my friends talk about the illegal aliens you’d think lynchings were about to start. Of course those same people have a bunch of tan boys mowing their yard every week. I have a lawn crew and don’t care whether they are here legally or not as long as they do a good job. I am so sick of everyone on both sides of this issue being hypocrites that I can’t stand it.
So for this week’s political post my only commentary is: LIGHTEN THE HELL UP. If everyone would just laugh about themselves every once in a while this might be a nicer place overall. That goes for my boys deriding the illegals and the illegals getting offended over a costume. Get over yourselves already. I have. That is all.

Chad is one of my current favorite artists. He’s on Suburban Home Records and just release “Smile Sweet Face” which I reviewed over on 9b. He just did what SBHR called “The Brewery Tour” but didn’t come through Texas so I have to live vicariously through the accounts of other and the occasional video. So here’s a little live Chad for your viewing pleasure:
I should also mention that I received my merch from SBHR in the form of the Cory Branan/Jon Snodgrass split album t-shirt, a Drag The River sticker, and a SBHR sticker along with a CD celebrating SBHR’s 14th anniversary.
As an aside. I am working on the Mix Widget Backend so yesterday’s compilation didn’t make it up and probably won’t. I am head down in code and don’t want to take breaks. I’ll get tomorrow’s post up but the Monday Mix may be delayed for a while until I get this code all sorted out.
Yesterday was a whirlwind. Work then as quick a drive as one can make from I-10 and Hwy 6 over to WIllowbrook Mall from there to Plantersville for a poker tournament. So my Life Management post slipped my mind even though I already had a topic picked out. I figure it’s better late than never so here it is.
I have already posted on using Google Calendar’s multiple calendar feature to compartmentalize your life to cut down on chaos and I am still using the methods I mentioned in that post but I have added to them based on screwing up my budget once again. So my suggestion today is simple. Put anything outside of your normal budget into a Google Calendar on the day you intend to spend the money. Since I am married we use the invite system to approve expenditures. For instance if my wife wants to buy a new washing machine she puts it into the calendar on the day she wants to buy it and sends me an invite. I can then look at the item and if I accept the invite then we don’t have to talk about the purchase. If we just plain can’t afford it then I can decline the invite or if we need to talk about it I can say Maybe to the invite. Using this system you can add up all your non-normal expenditures for each month and put them into your budget to see if your are crazy or if you can afford everything you want to do. Using this system also eliminates the “I didn’t know you were going to do that” issues that some couples struggle with.
In the end this is an easy system to combine with You Need A Budget which is the next item on the Life Management post series. I don’t know if these posts are helping anyone but I enjoy writing them so they will keep coming.

That bastard is making us wait until next year for this album but at least we got this:
Thing of the Past from kitchentablelegs on Vimeo.
This is one of the tracks off his new album and has only caused me to be totally annoyed that I can’t have it now.

You may have heard me rant about how much I like Tim Barry or listened to Please Consider Where I’ve Been – An Intro To Tim Barry but if you don’t own Live At Munford Elementary then you should be flogged, drawn and quartered and maybe flogged again. I offer the following as proof:
The first track is his version of “Shoulda Oughta” for the kids at Munford Elementary and the second is the album version. So use these links, from Tim’s site and get the album:
